Leading Particulars

The helicopter is capable of airspeeds up to 151 knots IAS. Endurance will vary between 3 and 4 hours. Fuel consumption is approximately 1200 pounds of fuel per hour while hovering and 1000 pounds per hour when cruising. For specific consumption, refer to Part 4. Usable fuel is 4235 pounds (after gravity refuelling).

The basic weight of the helicopter is approximately 14 500 pounds. This will vary slightly between helicopters; however, it is shown in the individual helicopter weight and balance data. The maximum gross weight of the helicopter is 20 500 pounds. See Figure 1-1-12 for Servicing Requirements.

For principal dimensions of the helicopter, see Figure 1-1-13.

The helicopter is fitted with an aerodynamic spoiler called the Strake. It is mounted to the upper left-hand side of the rear fuselage from Station 413.5 to 622.0 (Figure 1-1-14).

The Strake promotes flow separation on the left-hand side of the tail boom. This reduces the lift forces generated by downwash and right lateral wind over the tailcone resulting in increased available tail rotor thrust.
