  • Why add the Sea King by the numbers section?

The Shearwater Aviation Museum‘s curator had been thinking about having a place to gather up what the Sea King did during it’s lifetime: what operations, deployments, which tail number, ships, etc. Some of that information was being gathered for the Interactive Display anyway.

It became obvious that the time was right to put all of that in one place. Which led to a need to get all the CFB Shearwater / 12 Wing, 423, and 443 historical reports. Another rabit hole…

  • So where did the rest of the Sea King Tactical Fit pages come from?

The CH124 Sea King Tactical Fit pages came about as research into the pages for the Interactive Display developed. It was realized a lot of information was being gathered with no place to put it. Therefore, an section was created above the needs of the Interactive Display, in order to put that information in as it was gathered.

It quickly started to have a life of it’s own (or maybe it became a rabbit hole?)… when was the equipment installed, why, which modification was it published under, when did the different tail numbers have it???

  • Why make it public?

It was realized that the same information that was available in the pop-ups for the Sea King Interactive Display (information on the equipment selected and how it is used) might be of interest to the general public.

Therefore, the logical application of that was to publish the website on the internet, and therefore anyone could access it.

  • Why a website?

The original intent of this website was to be very simple, and only provided within the Sea King Interactive Display environment.

The Interactive Display’s purpose is (from Sea King Interactive Display Update 2019 10 20):

To allow all visitors to the Shearwater Aviation Museum to experience how the crew of a Canadian Sea King operated throughout its service life and various versions, regardless of the visitor’s background, if any, in maritime air operations.

To accomplish that, it has three Interaction Roles (Sea King Interactive Display Update 2019 10 20):

    • Demonstrate how operations are executed by the computer simulated crew:
      • Interaction with informational web pages
    • Allow partial participation by providing simple directions:
      • Interaction with simulated crew
    • Allow full participation for experienced visitors such as retired aircrew:
      • Interaction with equipment

First and foremost, as Shearwater Aviation Museum‘s role is to inform all visitors on Canada’s unique maritime aviation heritage, the display focuses on non-experienced visotrs, To do that, it will show how a crew is using the equipment. Visitors will be able to tap the equipment and a pop-up will be display showing what it’s for.

This website’s original purpose was to host those pop-ups…
