The distance indicator (Figure 1-11-8) is a three-digit indicator which is supplied with distance information from the TACAN system. The read-out is in nautical miles graduated in 1/2 mile increments and indicates the distance from the aircraft to the surface navigation beacon. A warning flag covers the three digits when a power failure exists, a TACAN malfunction occurs, unreliable information is received or the TACAN system is switched OFF. The indicator is located at the centre of the instrument panel.
