ASN-123C Tactical Navigation System

Type of: Tactical Navigation

The AN/ASN-123C TACNAV was a sophisticated navigation system when first developed. It combines data from multiple sensors to help the crew determine the aircraft’s exact position and determine the location and tracking of other ships and submarines.

How It Works

TACNAV continuously performs dead-reckoning calculations using GPS, Doppler, heading and airspeed. It accepts radar, sonar, MAD, FLIR bearing and other cooperating platforms information to allow the TACCO to build a track for other vessels.

Displays and Crew Interface

Steering information is sent to the pilots and TACCO through the BDHI system (Bearing Distance Heading Indicator).

Navigation and tracking data is shown to the Tactical Coordinator via the Digital Display.
