SENSO Control

Part of: ASN-123C Tactical Navigation System

The AN/ASN-123C TACNAV was a sophisticated navigation system when first developed. It combines data from multiple sensors to help the crew determine the aircraft’s exact position and determine the location and tracking of other ships and submarines.

Overview
The SENSO Control Unit is the Sensor Operator’s (SENSO) primary link to the TACNAV (Tactical Navigation) System. It allows the SENSO to send and receive navigation and contact data — working in coordination with the TACCO (Tactical Coordinator) to track and manage tactical information.

Location
Center of the Sensor Station

Purpose
The SENSO Control Unit acts as the communication bridge between the sensor systems (such as SONAR, RADAR, and Magnetic Anomaly Detection) and the TACNAV display. Through it, the SENSO can enter contact data.

Lighting & Indicators
When powered, the panel’s switch-indicators light up to guide the operator by providing continuous red legends and specific indicators to cue the SENSO to enter data.
