The AQS-502 is a lightweight echo-ranging dipping sonar capable of detecting and classifying moving and stationary underwater objects. The sonar set will provide information concerning range, bearing and speed, at display ranges of up to 20,000 yards.

Acts of the central and timing controller for the sonar, including creating the outgoing ping and processing the return. Controls allow the SENSO to select the operating mode, range displayed, frequency in use, audio selected to monitor, and the cursor bearing and range.
